Here at Prep Kitchen we are fully committed to being as environmentally friendly as possible.
All the electricity used in our kitchen is from renewable sources. We also place a strong emphasis on reducing the waste output from our cooking process, as well as recycling. 83% of our waste is currently recycled. Finally, we are continuously looking for ways to reduce our power consumption, including investing in more efficient machinery where possible.
We recently took the leap and invested in fully recyclable meal trays and lids. These white trays are made from 50% recycled material and can be detected by the automated recycling machines across the country, and so should be recyclable UK wide.
But why not use biodegradable packaging? All biodegradable meal trays have a thin layer of plastic on them. This means when you place them in your composting box, the first thing your local council will do is filter them into landfill. There these trays will rapidly release methane, which is many times worse than co2, while also leaving behind a plastic shell which will take hundreds of years to degrade.
This is why we support the program to make single use plastic in the EU a ‘closed system’ after 2030. This means that by 2030 all plastic within the EU will need to be recycled and reused, without adding any more plastic to the system beyond that.
All our meat, fruit and vegetables are sourced from local suppliers and we aim to keep a strong seasonal presence in our menus throughout the year. This helps support local businesses and drastically reduces our carbon footprint!
All of our national deliveries are currently via DPD, meaning they are co2 neutral! All of our boxes and coolants are also fully recyclable too!
